The Water Rats, King’s Cross

At 328 Gray’s Inn Road, the Water Rats has been quietly launching legends for decades. Back when it was the Pindar of Wakefield, a young Bob Dylan sang upstairs at the Singers Club in December 1962, on his first trip to Britain. The Pogues played their first ever gig here in October 1982. Oasis made their London debut here on 27 January 1994, and The Beta Band played their debut show here in 1997. The pub took its current name in 1986, when the showbiz charity the Grand Order of Water Rats bought it. It’s still a proper grassroots room, where the next big thing could be on stage any night of the week.
